ANCA, implicated as having a pathogenic role in systemic vasculitis, can activate tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha)-primed neutrophils by cross-linking surface-expressed ANCA antigens with neutrophil FcgammaRIIa receptors to release reactive oxygen species.
