The role of 6-mercaptopurine (6MP) in the treatment of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) is well established. However, the efficacy of 6MP is significantly influenced by inactivation by the polymorphic enzyme thiopurine methyltransferase (TPMT).
