<title>Abstract</title> <p><bold>Background: </bold>Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common form of kidney cancer in adults. Approximately 50% to 80% of sporadic RCCs are associated with mutations in the von Hippel-Lindau (<italic>VHL</italic>) gene in Western countries.
