The benzylisoquinoline alkaloid (BIA) family of tetrahydroisoquinolines (THIQs) comprises over 2,500 members, including the pharmaceuticals morphine, codeine, and papaverine as well as the antibiotics sanguinarine and chelerythrine used in animal husbandry.
