Pyrimidine catabolism is implicated in hepatic steatosis. Dihydropyrimidine Dehydrogenase (DPYD) is an enzyme responsible for uracil and thymine catabolism, and DPYD human genetic variability affects clinically observed toxicity following 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) administration.
