Biallelic inactivation of the Von Hippel-Lindau ( VHL ) tumor suppressor gene occurs in almost all cases of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and leads to disrupted oxygen sensing and the upregulation of hypoxia-related genetic programs.
