The cytosolic glutathione-degrading enzyme, ChaC1, is highly upregulated in several cancers, with the upregulation correlating to poor prognosis. The ability to inhibit ChaC1 thus becomes important in pathophysiological situations where elevated glutathione levels would be beneficial.
