We examined RET protooncogene mutations in sporadic medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based sequencing. DNA was extracted from tumor tissue and peripheral blood leukocytes of seven unrelated individuals with apparently sporadic MTC.
