We report here a counter-selectable marker system for genetic transformation of the yeast Schwanniomyces alluvius, based on the complementation of uracil auxotrophs defective in either orotidine-5'-phosphate decarboxylase (URA3) or orotidine-5'-pyrophosphate (URA5).
