Five protein families are needed to encompass the diversity of cyclic-AMP (cAMP) phosphodiesterases (PDE). Family IV PDEs (PDE IV) specifically hydrolyze cAMP with a low Km, and are selectively inhibited by rolipram (Rp) and related drugs.
