Rapamycin (Rm) is a macrolide antifungal agent related to FK506 that exhibits potent immunosuppressive properties which are mediated through interaction with specific cytoplasmic receptors (FKBPs or RBPs, for FK506- and Rm-binding proteins, respectively).
