The Lpb5 apolipoprotein B (apoB) allele occurs in pigs with spontaneous hypercholesterolemia. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) from these pigs binds to the LDL receptor with a lower affinity and is cleared from the circulation more slowly than control pig LDL.
