A neomycin resistance (neo) gene driven by the phosphoglycerokinase (PGK) promoter was inserted into the Hoxd-10 homeobox by homologous recombination in embryonic stem (ES) cells. Chimeric mice derived from ES cell-injected blastocysts died shortly after birth.
