The bioactive lipid lysophosphatidic acid is besides a strong mitogen for quiescent fibroblasts, a potent inducer of phenotypic transformation of normal rat kidney cells. The lysophosphatidic acid induced loss of density-arrest is strongly inhibited by bradykinin.
