A leucine auxotroph of Streptomyces lividans (Sl), designated PC196, was unable to convert alpha-isopropylmalate into the beta-isomer. A DNA fragment from Actinoplanes teichomyceticus (At) cloned into the Streptomyces vector pIJ702 complemented PC196.
