The gamma complex (gamma delta delta' chi psi) and tau complex (tau delta delta' chi psi) clamp loaders require ATP hydrolysis to load beta sliding clamps onto DNA. The beta sliding clamp tethers the polymerase (Pol) III* replicase to DNA for processive synthesis.
