Antibodies against double stranded DNA (dsDNA) are characteristic of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and have been implicated in disease pathogenesis. Up to one third of an SLE patient's anti-dsDNA antibodies can express the lambda L chain idiotype 8.12.
