DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) are nucleolytically processed to generate single-stranded DNA for homologous recombination. In Saccharomyces cerevisiae meiosis, this resection involves nicking by the Mre11-Rad50-Xrs2 complex (MRX), then exonucleolytic digestion by Exo1.
