The two major determining factors for Alzheimer's disease (AD) are genetics and lifestyle. Alleles of the apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene play important roles in the development of late-onset AD, with APOEɛ4 increasing risk, APOEɛ3 being neutral, and APOEɛ2 reducing risk.
