Hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS), mostly secondary to infectious diseases, is a common cause of acute kidney injury in children. It is characterized by progressive acute kidney failure due to severe thrombotic microangiopathy, associated with nonimmune, Coombs-negative hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia.
