The PNPLA3 rs738409 G allele increases the risk of not only nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) but also nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) or fibrosis.1 It also affects the prognosis of patients with NAFLD in specific conditions.
