Somatic hypermutation at antibody loci affects both deoxyadenosine-deoxythymidine (A/T) and deoxycytidine-deoxyguanosine (C/G) pairs. Deamination of C to deoxyuridine (U) by activation-induced deaminase (AID) explains how mutation at C/G pairs is potentiated.
