BACKGROUND: Oncogenic mutations in PIK3CA are prevalent in diverse cancers and can be targeted with inhibitors of the phosphoinositide-3-kinase/protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin (PI3K/AKT/mTOR) pathway.
