The sla1+ gene of Schizosachharoymces pombe encodes La protein which promotes proper processing of precursor-tRNAs. Deletion of sla1 (sla1Δ) leads to disrupted tRNA processing and sensitivity to target of rapamycin (TOR) inhibition.
