Cardiac senescence is a typical chronic frailty condition in the elderly population, and cellular aging is often associated with oxidative stress. The mitochondrial-membrane flavoenzyme monoamine oxidase A (MAO A) catalyzes the oxidative deamination of neurotransmitters, and its expression increases in aged hearts.
