The unicellular parasite Trypanosoma brucei is transmitted between mammals by tsetse flies. Following the discovery that flagellar phosphodiesterase PDEB1 is required for trypanosomes to move in response to signals in vitro (social motility), we investigated its role in tsetse flies.
