The chondrocyte circadian clock is altered in osteoarthritis. This change is implicated in the disease-associated changes in chondrocyte phenotype and cartilage loss. Why the clock is changed is unknown. N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDAR) are critical for regulating the hypothalamic clock.
