The pathogenesis of endometriosis, a common benign but debilitating disease in women, remains elusive. The currently held stem cell theory posits that circulating progenitor/stem cells are deposited outside the uterus, where they differentiate into endometrial stroma and glandular tissue to establish endometriosis.
