During replication, bypass of DNA lesions is orchestrated by the Rad6 pathway. Monoubiquitination of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) by Rad6/Rad18 leads to recruitment of translesion polymerases for direct and potentially mutagenic damage bypass.
