Bone morphogenic proteins (BMPs) stimulate bone formation in vivo and osteoblast differentiation in vitro via a Smad signaling pathway. Recent findings revealed that the activation of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) inhibits BMP-induced osteoblast differentiation.
