Type-1 diabetes (T1D) is caused by T-cell mediated autoimmune reaction directed against the insulin-secreting beta cells. We hypothesized that in addition to antigen/MHC recognition the co-stimulatory B7 and CD28 pathway is also strongly affected in T1D.
