Cytidine triphosphate (CTP) synthase catalyzes the last step in pyrimidine ribonucleotide synthesis, namely the formation of CTP from UTP, ATP, and glutamine. Mutants devoid of CTP synthase activity require cytidine for growth and have been designated pyrG in an obligate cdd background.
