BACKGROUND & AIMS: Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) change phenotypes under various pathophysiological conditions. These changes are largely controlled by the serum response factor (SRF), a transcription factor that binds to CC (A/T)6 GG (CArG) boxes in SM contractile genes.
