Presenilin-1 (PS1) is a transmembrane protein that is in many cases responsible for the development of familial Alzheimer's disease. PS1 is widely expressed in embryogenesis and is essential for neurogenesis, somitogenesis, angiogenesis, and cardiac morphogenesis.
