The ends of both double-strand breaks (DSBs) and telomeres undergo tightly regulated 5' to 3' resection. Resection of DNA ends, which is specifically inhibited during the G1 cell cycle phase, requires the MRX complex, Sae2, Sgs1 and Exo1.
