Energy transfer between the two tryptophan residues in the lactose repressor protein and the fluorescent moiety of the cysteine-specific reagent N-[[(iodoacetyl)amino]ethyl]-5-naphthylamine-1-sulfonate (1,5-IAEDANS) has been examined.
