BACKGROUND: Dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Yet, genetic variations of the gene encoding the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPARalpha) can also modulate CVD risk factors.
