BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Mercaptopurine, azathioprine, and thioguanine, used as antineoplastic agents and immunosuppressants are catabolized by thiopurine methyltransferase (TPMT) enzyme, which exhibits genetic polymorphism.
