The Bateman domain (CBS subdomain) of IMP dehydrogenase (IMPDH), a rate-limiting enzyme of the de novo GMP biosynthesis, is evolutionarily conserved but has no established function. Deletion of the Bateman domain has no effect on the in vitro IMPDH activity.
