Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) as a family of zinc-dependent endopeptidases have been involved in remodeling the extracellular matrix (ECM) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In RA patients synovial fluid and serum include enhanced levels of MMP-3.
