ATP-sensitive K+ channels (K(ATP) channels) are metabolic sensors formed by association of a K+ channel, Kir6, and an ATP-binding cassette (ABC) protein, SUR, which allosterically regulates channel gating in response to nucleotides and pharmaceutical openers and blockers.
