The biochemical and biological properties of a novel neuroendocrine-associated phosphatase (NEAP) were characterized. NEAP had a sequence characteristic of a dual-specificity phosphatase (DSP), and was preferentially expressed in neuroendocrine cells/tissues as well as in skeletal muscle and heart.
