A statistically significant association was observed between alleles of the HLA-DQA2 and of the DR/DQ complex in a DNA-restriction fragment length polymorphism study of 219 members from 21 multiplex families of patients with hyperthyroid Graves' disease and 773 unrelated individuals selected for homozygosity of the HLA-DQA2 alleles.
