In the frog, Xenopus laevis, the Cip/Kip-type cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitor, Xic1, inhibits DNA replication in interphase egg extracts through the binding of CDK2-cyclins and Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen (PCNA).
