OBJECTIVE: The vesicle-associated membrane protein-4 (VAMP4) gene is an excellent type 2 diabetes (T2DM) positional candidate gene. It is located on chromosome 1q24-q25, a region of linkage to T2DM in the Amish and several other populations.
