Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchors various proteins to the membrane of eukaryotic cells. Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a hematopoietic stem cell disorder that is primarily due to the lack of GPI-anchored proteins on the surface of blood cells.
