Mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) is essential for transcription and replication of mammalian mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). Disturbance of maintenance of mtDNA integrity or mitochondrial function may underlay neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer disease (AD).
