PURPOSE: Hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) is an autosomal dominant syndrome of familial malignancies. Colorectal and endometrial cancers are most frequently observed. The syndrome results mainly from germ-line mutations in DNA mismatch repair genes.
