Nuclear gene products replicate and partition mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) molecules in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. However, few of the relevant genes have been identified. A mutation that results in temperature-sensitive loss of mtDNA identifies one of these genes, MGM1.
