Although the yeast genome does not encode bona fide protein tyrosine kinases, tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins are numerous, suggesting that besides dual-specificity kinases, some Ser/Thr kinases are also committed to tyrosine phosphorylation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
